Special Features of Homestead at Heritage
The program direction is orchestrated by a professional trained in providing comprehensive care for individuals with memory impairments.
A ratio of 1 staff person to every 7 residents is provided sixteen hours of the day. Two awake staff are provided during the night hours, who are available to help should anything be needed over night.
Nurses are here from 8am to 11pm Monday-Friday and 8am to 8pm on weekends. Overnight they are on call.
Staff are specially selected and trained. Staff members receive 16 hour Alzheimer's of training annually that was designed by the Alzheimer's Association.
A resident's daily program consists of 12 hours of structured life participation activities, developed by the Director of the Homestead Program. These include, but are not limited to, leisure, spiritual, social, personal care, and educational occurrences.
There are 4 full time staff exclusively devoted to activities. These staff are supplemented by numerous care aides, volunteers and entertainers.
The program's focus is on flexibility in meeting the needs of the individual, life skills, self-esteem building, and success-oriented programming experiences.
In addition there is convenient access to outside space via our large, secure gardens and walking paths (one and a half acres).
Integration with the Heritage community and the community at large, and scheduled outings in the Heritage van.
Interaction with school children and pets of various types
Monitoring of the wellness, by our nursing staff, of each resident, including nutrition and exercise.
Small, kitchen- focused neighborhood designs for 8 to 12 residents, conducive to small community living.
Easy navigation within the setting; includes prompts into the decor through use of color.
The award-winning physical environment is designed to promote safety and independence for the memory-impaired resident.
Respite stays are available for short-term residents.
